Jonestown Massacre
The Jonestown Massacre is one of the biggest man made massacres throughout history. The peoples temple was the religion that was being practiced there. Around 900 people had all killed themselves due to religious beliefs. The massacre happened almost all at once. The massacre had happened when a religious cult had been suspected. The events started to unfold when congress man Ryan had heard that things had been suspicious. While Ryan was there he noticed things were a bit of out of the ordinary. While at a massive festive dinner, a paper had been slipped to one of Ryan's men asking if they were allowed to leave with Ryan and his men. This was a little concerning but nothing too severe to blow things out of proportion. It was reported that Ryan then made a large announcement that anyone that wanted to leave would be able to do so with Ryan and his men. A fear that the people were being held captive there had started to show. The following day, Congressman Ryan and those that wanted to leave had boarded a Truck, and were attacked. The truck was able to escape and make it to the airport where they were set to fly away. As the plane was being boarded peoples temple members arrived in a big tractor and trailer and began to shoot at the plane and Ryan. Ryan and 4 others were killed during this ordeal and others severly wounded. After this had happened it had became obvious that Jonestown was no good, and the whole world saw it. In a panic the leader of Jonestown, Jones, had convinced everyone that it was time for a giant suicide. He had sold those believing in the religion an idea that the end was coming, which it was. Members then began to pray and one by one step forward and retrieve a cup of Kool-aid which had had poison in it. Members began to drink. By the time the media had gotten to the town it was too late. There were hundreds of bodies laying everywhere. Those who did not drink the aid were killed or had killed themselves. This disasters is one of the biggest mass suicides in US History.
