Blue vs. Red

Throughout history, the police have always had difficulties with gangs. There is not gang more infamous than the Bloods and Crips. These gangs have been sworn rivals doing anything to dispose of each other. Of course in these gang altercations there are bullets shed and lives lost, but where and what are these gangs really about?

As for the Crips, there large gang was started in the heart of Los Angeles California. The gang began causing trouble all the back into 1969. The founders of this extremely violent gang are Raymond Washington and Stanley Williams. All Crip members must be African American. These two began to form truces with mini gangs and eventually set up Crip sets. The gang would even recruit students from other schools to join there gang instead of attend school. Which were smaller gangs all under the same team, that way if a bigger job was needed they had back up members to come help. When the gang was originally created it consisted with many anger and upset 17 year old kids running the street in blue. In the late 90’s over 600 Crip sets with over 30,000 members had been out and about. The gang itself has a history of robbery, drug dealing, street warfare and murders and these Crip sets continue to do these things to this day.

In the other corner is the infamous and just as deadly rival gang, the bloods. The bloods also operate in sets or mini gangs much like the Crips that way they can compare in numbers. Bloods are mainly African Americans but there are some members that are not of this ethnicity. Bloods were anything red to signify that they are affiliated with this gang. Blood members have been documented in the US military leaving skills that are needed for street warfare and gun fights. The gang was created in 1979 and is still rising and gaining members to this day. The bloods were created when the Crips founder Raymond Washington confronted Sylvester Scott and Benson Owens. After the confrontation the Bloods were created. The bloods were outnumbered 3:1 and to remain powerful became the more violent / aggressive gang.

My opinion in the gang warfare is that it needs to be stopped. The two gangs have had history of extreme violence and drug distribution. The amount of drugs distributed are extremely insane and should be looked into. Although it is easier to say that these things need to be stopped it is very hard for it too. The gangs almost have complete control of their city which makes it hard for police officers to intervene without risking their lives.
